Prof. Srolovitz conducts simulation and theoretical research on defects in crystalline materials, morphological evolution, microstructure evolution and thin film growth processes. His research combines atomistic, first-prinicples, spin model, and continuum simulation methods. Recent work focusses point defect diffusion in metals and oxides, dislocation dynamics, grain boundary migration, chemical vapor deposition, atomic scale contact mechanics, surface instabilities, electromigration, stress in films, and thin film growth.
