Director of Micro/Nano Fabrication Laboratory
We have an opening for a position to manage the 100-user micro/nano-fabrication facility, which is part of Princeton University’s Institute for the Science and Technology of Materials (PRISM). Lab information at http://www.prism.princeton.edu/PRISM_cleanroom/fabrication.htm
Specific duties include:
- Responsible for 24/7 operation including safety.
- Manage daily operations, personnel, and operating budget.
- Help plan and oversee facility expansions and renovations.
- Responsible for evaluation, selection and acquisition of new equipment and equipment upgrades and repairs.
- Negotiate and manage purchase and vendor agreements.
- Train undergraduate and graduate students.
Essential Qualifications:
- PhD in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics or Materials Science with at least 5 years of research experience in a micro/nanofabrication facility.
- Must be skilled in all aspects of semiconductor processing, including lithography, plasma etching, thin film deposition, thermal and wet chemical processing.
- Know safety and health issues concerning clean room equipment and operation, safety and warning installations, gas cylinder handling, chemical handling, and chemical waste disposal
The successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills to work with students, faculty, technicians, industrial collaborators, and vendors; must be a self-motivated leader, and a hands-on person who will work extensively in the lab and with students.
Start date is January 1, 2008 or as soon as possible.

Associate Director
Reporting to the Director, the major responsibilities of the position include:
Oversight of the Institute operating budget, management of all administrative and professional staff, coordination of FTE and AI budget with Director, compliance and oversight of research and financial issues including:
- Budget proposal preparation
- Account management, safety, and information technology
- Oversee Research Facilities consisting of both technical needs and budget responsibilities
- Represent director at internal and external meetings
- Work with Institute faculty on short and long-term planning for research operations adminstrative services, and space utilization/renovation
- Organize interaction between Institute and other departments/centers/institutes on campus by working with PRISM faculty and other personnel from other organizations.
- Work with Faculty Director of Certificate Program in Materials Science and Engineering to coordinate undergrad and graduate education efforts
- Work with faculty, PU planning office, and architects on planning of new building, in terms of technical needs for advanced central facility and faculty research labs and make relevant decisions, represent director at building meetings.
- Work with faculty and other PRISM staff to pursue and implement new opportunities, especially in areas where Assoc. Director has leading expertise
- Work with other PRISM staff to oversee the Institute's communications, such as web pages, brochures, newsletters, etc.
- Possibility to teach courses as per interest and technical qualifications as time permits
The position requires a Ph.D. in field related to materials and optics with research experience.
Must have experience in leadership and management of research operations, research facilities, and/or research programs
Experience with field of large-area electronics helpful
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
Strong interpersonal and decision-making skills
